Revert to your old Ubuntu splash theme after installing Kubuntu or Xubuntu Desktop using galternatives

Install galternatives
sudo apt-get install galternatives

run with sudo galternatives or from menu Applications/System Tools/Alternatives Configurator

Find default.plymouth and select /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu-logo.plymouth

Mouse pointer can also be changed from x-cursor-theme

Credit goes to Ginsu here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1462523

You can change A LOT of  alternatives from there too!
